Lattice Design

Lattice design, topology and optimization is a method to minimize one feature in a design and maximize another. For example, to minimize material and costs but at the same time, maximze the durability and rigidity of a part. The project was to design and optimize a chair and table using Altair Inspire and nTopology. These are topology and optimization software designed to assist with reducing one feature and maximizing another feature like rigidity or durability. The chair was designed after an Egg chair where the optimization was done on the base of the chair as well as the seat and back of the chair. The frame of the chair was left solid to allow for more rigidity. The table went through the same process where the legs were optimized and the top of the table was left rigid.
